How to manually add an upsell
This guide shows you how to add an upsell, such as breakfast or an early check-in, to a guest's stay yourself, straight from their conversation in Runnr.ai. Use it when a guest asks for an extra at the front desk, by phone or in chat and you want to add it for them.
Before you start
- The guest has a reservation in Runnr.ai, so their conversation shows a Details tab.
- Upsell products are set up for your property (for example breakfast or early check-in). If a product is missing from the list, ask your Runnr.ai contact to add it.
- You can see the Upsells tab next to Details.
Steps
- Open the guest's conversation. Search for the guest in Runnr, for example while they are standing at reception.
- Click Upsells. The tab sits at the top of the conversation, next to Details. It lists the products you can still add to this guest's stay.
- Pick the product. Choose what the guest asks for, such as breakfast or an early check-in.
- Set the quantity. Enter how many you want to add.
- Say who booked it. Select who added the upsell, so it is credited correctly in your analytics.
- Add it to the stay. Confirm, and the product is added to the guest's reservation.
What happens next
- The guest is notified. They receive a confirmation in their Runnr.ai conversation that the product has been added.
- Your PMS is updated. If the product is linked to your PMS, it is booked back there automatically (breakfast with Apaleo, for example).
- It shows in your analytics. Go to Analytics and switch to Upsells at the top. Manually added upsells count towards revenue, number sold, and the averages per room and per stay.
Good to know
- Some products need approval. An early check-in, for example, has to be approved by reception before it counts.
- PMS-linked prices are fixed. For products linked to your PMS, the price field is greyed out because Runnr.ai takes the price from the PMS.
- Only linked products are written back to the PMS. Which products that covers depends on your property's integration. You can see that at Products and Services in your settings.
